About Me

This blog is being written with the hope that sharing my ups and downs doing what I love for a living inspires and helps others to achieve their own dreams.

I am a working artist making a living at what I love to do for the past 34 years.  I am a muralist, a canvas artist, a furniture designer, a custom finisher, an illustrator, an author and anything else that sounds like fun.  I’ve always been a sucker for fun and that indeed has gotten me into trouble at times which I will blog on at some point.  My husband of soon to be 40 years, Bob, is extremely talented as well with sculpting, carving and creating beautiful pieces of furniture.  Together we make a fantastic team.

In my past life, I tried being a secretary for a couple of years right out of high school and did a couple of stints in bookkeeping, but it just wasn’t my “thing.”  I always yearned for something more and loved anything that was creative.  I tried macrame, candle making, decoupage, cake decorating, sewing, knitting, crochet and quilting.  Then in 1977 I took a six-week oil painting class that opened the door to a beautiful new world…one that I truly understood.  To this day I know deep in my soul that I was born to paint.  It isn’t what I do, but who I am.  And now the rest is history.

I’ve run the gamut in the art business….I’ve taught hundreds of women how to paint.  I’ve stood on podiums before large crowds teaching painting techniques. I’ve written 15 decorative painting instructional books as well as numerous magazine articles for arts and crafts magazines.  I even co-authored an article with my husband Bob in Creative Woodworks and Crafts.  He built the wood and I did the paint job.

Another facet of our art was our wholesale business, manufacturing gift items and small furniture selling to shops in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and New York.  That business just about killed us, but it was fun for a long time and we did end up selling the business to my publisher when the time was right.  We owned and ran two craft shops, Cricket Hollow Craft and Gift and Celebrations, where we sold supplies, gifts and taught classes.  We’ve done it all in that industry.

Now we feel it’s time to share…share the knowledge of the business and share the love of making art.  Please feel free to comment on my posts or let me know if there’s any particular thing you’d like to hear about.

Thanks for taking time to read this and have a beautiful day!

  2. I can really relate with ” it isn’t what I do, but who I am, realizing this changed everything for me. It’s good medicine to see other’s who have successfully followed and realized their dreams, as well as having awakened others to realize thier own dreams, along the way. Thanks for sharing your story, it is inspiring and encouraging. Peace and Love J.A.M.

    • Thanks so much for your kind comments. Never give up. It’s taken me a long time to get where I am today and there were a couple of times I almost gave it all up and got a “real” job…LOL But my artsy self dragged me back into it and I am not sorry. Just keep doing your art and putting it out there. Energy takes hold and does the rest!
